Job title: Senior Systems and Data Analyst 

Classification: Program Coordinator, level 2   

Department: Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA)

Organization: American University of Armenia Fund (Marshal Baghramyan 40/40a, Yerevan, RA)

The Senior Systems and Data Analyst will provide expertise in data design, extraction, maintenance, and presentation by constructing and maintaining databases and basic University statistics for internal and external reporting, research and data visualization that informs institutional effectiveness, academic program review, planning, budgeting, decision-making, and research. The working environment is multi-lingual so you must be fluent (reading, writing, and speaking) in both English and Armenian. 

Job responsibilities

  1. Performs data maintenance, data collection and compilation including but not limited to data extraction, data cleaning, and data verification.  Utilizes advanced statistical and database tools such as SPSS, Python, R, and SQL.
  2. Develops and promotes dynamic data analysis and visualization. Proficiently utilizes visualization platforms like Tableau, Excel, or Power BI to transform complex datasets into actionable insight 
  3. Assumes responsibility for the management of the Tableau Cloud administrative site overseeing university-wide access to reports. Implements robust controls and protocols to maintain data integrity and security standards across the organization. Administers surveys to students, faculty, staff, alumni, alumni employers, and other university stakeholders for research and reporting efforts.
  4. Analyzes data and prepares reports of institutional data, surveys, and other information.
  5. Participates in identifying appropriate research questions and assists in executing research projects from conceptual design to finished product.
  6. Maintains databases and data files. Maintains an appropriate and current archive of data files, archives, and other documentation. Creating technical documentations and generating custom SQL views and tables to optimize data management and reporting efficiency of the office.
  7. Actively engages in University’s student information system meetings, documents data-related issues, supports other offices in data verification and validation and provides valuable solutions to enhance data accuracy and efficiency.
  8. Conducts benchmarking and research related to institutional research, diverse data tools collection (e.g. research data), data usage, university assessment methods and higher education in general.
  9. Assists in the preparation of documents (reports, memos, correspondence, etc.). 
  10. Assists in the overall running of the Office. 
  11. Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisors.

Required qualifications

  • University Diploma (Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, education administration, business, public administration, social sciences or a closely related field)
  • Excellent computer skills including command of statistical software (Must have working knowledge of SPSS. Basic knowledge of Tableau or Power BI)
  • Experience in programming (Must have Basic knowledge of SQL, R or Python)
  • 2-5 years of experience in a relevant position or/and job duty. 
  • Understanding of the U.S. higher education system
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other staff and faculty
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, and a sense of ethics
  • Experience in problem solving and complex data set analysis
  • Enthusiasm to learn, pioneer and introduce business intelligence best 
  • practices, technology, and tools to synchronize and conjunct complex data sets. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with survey design and qualitative analysis
  • Experience in an educational environment a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with assessment of student learning a plus
