Full-Time Faculty and Inaugural Chair, MA Program in Journalism, College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), American University of Armenia (AUA)

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the American University of Armenia is seeking a full-time faculty in Journalism who will also serve as the Inaugural Chair of its new MA program in Journalism scheduled to launch in Fall 2025. They are expected to join AUA in July 2024 or shortly afterwards but no later than January 2025. 

The MA program in Journalism is currently under development in collaboration with Washington State University (WSU)’s Murrow College of Communication, with funding received from the U.S. Department of State within the framework of the Project "Establishing a University Partnership to Create an MA Program & Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) in Armenia" implemented in partnership with the U.S. Embassy Yerevan. A Center of Excellence in Journalism is also being launched under the same grant. Both the new program and the Center will contribute to preparing journalists, providing training for professional journalists, research, and outreach. AUA is also developing a new state-of-the-art Media Lab, which includes facilities for video recording, podcasting, editing, and so on. 

Our new colleague will collaborate with faculty on program and resource development. They will also engage in a short exchange program at WSU in their first year to experience firsthand Murrow’s experiential approach to journalism education and forge collaborative ties with Murrow faculty. In addition to engaging in administrative duties, responsibilities will also include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, supervising student capstones, pursuing a research agenda, and serving the university and the profession. 

Candidates should have significant professional experience as a working journalist, as well as teaching experience. The candidate’s rank will be determined based on their qualifications and experience. 

Compensation: Compensation is commensurate with university-wide pay scale, qualifications and experience. AUA offers an extensive benefits package to international hires, including a housing allowance and an international travel allowance.
