The Admissions Counselor is responsible for supporting the recruitment and processing of freshman and transfer students at the undergraduate and graduate level as well as for certificate,
non-degree, and study abroad programs in the Office of Admissions at the American University
of Armenia. The Admissions Counselor reports directly to the Director of Admissions.
Job Duties
Front Desk Duties
- Accurately and clearly communicate admissions requirements, policies, and procedures of AUA’s graduate and undergraduate programs in English and Armenian, for both in person visits and on the phone.
- Serve as first point of contact for prospective students and families ensuring all questions are responded to appropriately and in a manner that creates a welcoming environment.
- Ensure all email communication to various admissions administered email addresses is responded to accurately and in a timely manner.
- Provide engaging on-campus tours to prospective applicants.
Recruitment
- Assist with recruitment of new students by visiting schools, corresponding with high school personnel, contacting and arranging meetings with various high-schools and student groups.
- Travel with Admissions team to present AUA undergraduate and graduate programs to prospective students.
- Prepare and conduct engaging and informative presentations about AUA to prospective students, their families, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Assist in supporting recruitment events including, but not limited to, Open Houses, informational events, school visits, and more.
- Work with the Office of Communications as requested to prepare recruitment supplies including but not limited to program flyers, memorabilia, and more.
- Establish and maintain ties with Armenian schools and communities both locally and in the diaspora in order to complement University recruitment objectives.
- Support international recruitment efforts by researching potential leads and organizing virtual events.
Administrative and Application Processing
- Create and regularly update an electronic database of all relevant leads for undergraduate, graduate, and other programs.
- Review online applications to ensure they are accurate and updated as necessary.
- Support staff to streamline and improve the online application system for a better user experience.
- Maintain and/or create files and records of correspondence, reports, policies, e-mail listings, applicant/school files, academic contacts, etc.
- Complete technical eligibility checks for each application ensuring accuracy of data in a timely manner.
- Support data specialists in data verification reviews for all applicants.
- Analyze and evaluate admissions information including self-reported high school data, high school transcripts, and test scores, and conduct transcript evaluations for graduate and undergraduate applicants ensuring GPA accuracy.
- Initiate contact with international in-progress applicants to increase the number of submitted applications.
Other
- Support social media efforts by recommending engaging posts for the Office of Admissions social pages, and ensuring timely social media updates and to maximize visibility.
- Support the Director of Admissions in ensuring the admissions website is relevant, updated, and does not contain outdated information.
- Conduct thorough research on the best practices as assigned by supervisor and/or admission committees.
- Ensure close collaboration with other offices: Registrar’s, Student Affairs, Office of the Communication, etc.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Knowledge
- Undergraduate degree;
Skills
- Fluency in English and Armenian. Russian, Arabic, or Farsi is a plus;
- Strong English and Armenian writing skills;
- Extremely attentive to details;
- Excellent online media communication skills (email, social networks, etc.);
- Very good computer skills (MS Office);
- Strong administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
